A Special Nameday

Samuru hummed as he held up a letter of invitation, his brows knitting as the pair walked through Kugane. “Ah it’s Destiney’s nameday in a week. She is having a celebration at her home.” He’d murmur to Isen as the pair walked. “It’s unfortunate we can’t make it because we’re bound to Othard at the moment.”

The Hyur nodded and took the letter to give it a glance. “It would’ve been nice to pay a visit. Maybe there is something else we can do?”

Ru rubbed at his chin and then snapped his fingers. “We could send her a gift and a letter. I know it doesn’t replace our presence but at least she’ll know we were thinking of her.” He chirped. Isen nodded in agreement as he pondered over what kind of gift to give her.

“Hm well this is more your department. Let’s have a browse in the shops and see what we can—” Isen began, his attention caught by something shiny near a merchant stall. He rushed over to the assortment of swords and daggers, his eyes growing wide at such a spectacular sight. Samuru followed along and blinked at the distraction, his eyes drifting to Isen with some concern. “I think Destiney could use some protection!” He’d turn to Samuru and grin, nodding enthusiastically. “What better thing than a dagger?”

The Elezen made a face at his husband, crossing his arms while tapping a foot. “She doesn’t want some crusty old dagger. She wants something…pretty. Perhaps something that has a nice sparkle to it.” He’d argue.

“Crusty?!” Isen exclaimed, looking insulted by such an accusation. “Look at these, they’re finely crafted art! Sleek hilts, sharp blades, the finest Kugane has to offer. She’ll love it!”

“Hmph. You sound as if you’re the one trying to sell it. Destiney isn’t an assassin, she is a healer. What in the world would she do with that?”

Isen waggled a finger, sticking to his guns on the debate. “Healers run into trouble just as much as any other. She could gut any bastard that decides to interfere with her…conjury-magic stuff.”

Samuru squinted and grit his teeth, turning to motion to another stall with an assortment of jewelry. “These are a far better choice for a gift. She’d look so gorgeous wearing any of these things.”

Isen sighed and rolled his eyes in frustration. “Those won’t offer protection! How are you not seeing the bigger picture Samuru?“

It was then that Ru turned to Isen and shot a glare at him, leaning forward to invade his space. “She wants sparkly things.” He practically growled at the Hyur, drawing the attention of the nearby crowd.

Isen wasn’t one to back down and he stepped in to close the gap between them further. “She wants stabby things.” He hissed in return, the pair holding firm to their seemingly endless stand-off.

A similar package would arrive not long after the first, the wrapping wouldn’t have been as nicely done, clearly the original person had more fines. But once opened it would be very clear as so why.
