Let your characters break
One weakness in writing I have is that I have a hard time letting my characters take a fall. I want things to be difficult (but not too difficult) and sad (but not too sad).
When characters are at rock bottom, they may write like different characters. They may compromise their beliefs in an attempt to relieve the stress/pain. They may be mean to characters you, as the author, know don’t deserve it.
It’s a struggle, but if I have any advice to give today, it’s let your characters break. It’ll make building them up just that much more powerful to the reader.
