There are some new/interesting questions in here. Let’s give this one a try.
The healer has the bloodiest hands. You cannot treat a wound without knowing how deep it goes. You cannot heal pain by hiding it. You must accept. Accept the blood to make things better.
Work. She knew the dangers an pains of such work. She had done her fair share of odd jobs before finding her home among the Order. Her jobs were a bit more carefully selected now. At least any that she did on her own free time.
A frown crossed her features as he admitted why he was refusing her aid. It was a fine reason. She might have thought similarly had she not spent so much time around her current ’family’. Helping those who she had a feeling could not afford most people who would agree to help for a price. An what was wrong with just helping someone while asking for nothing in return on occasion. Nothing of course.
Before she could object though he had changed the subject. Clever. Obviously one used to dealing with faked smiles. Whether he was the one wearing them or just seeing through them, she didn’t know. A part of her wanted to deny it as she sometimes did. But she could make polite conversation to keep an eye on him. Last thing she wanted to was walk away an leave him to fend off anything in his state should something else pass by. The memories were not as sharp an jagged as they once were.
“A bit of both really. I met someone out here years ago. Well further northeast of here a bit. The circumstances that lead to our meeting… That’s the bad memory.” A sad smile as she thought about the incident. Her hand drifting up to her left shoulder. Fingertips resting over one spot in particular. The memory of an old wound though it never bothered her physically. Her uncle had done a good job repairing all the physical damage.
He had experience on both sides of a false smile. There was plenty of need, especially during jobs where he was set in a place of service as a way to gather information. At times all it took was a smile to put someone at ease, even if the smile didn’t quite reach your eyes. Learning to see through them was just as important, as well, for the simple sake of staying safe.
“Sorry to dredge up the past. Some things are better left buried.” Riski wrinkled his nose in sympathy for a moment. “You can keep going on your way if you want. Don’t want to make you stay.” The attacks were growing less frequent, as well as less intense and a little shorter each time. “Thanks, though. Appreciate the company.”
She shook her head as she held up her hand as if to stop the apology. She didn’t need apologies. It wasn’t his fault. Even if somethings were better left buried, this would always be something she refused to bury. It didn’t deserve to be buried. No matter how much it hurt. With time it had begun to hurt less slowly. But his thanks did bring about a genuine smile this time.
“I think I am content to wait. If nothing else my time among my free company has taught me it’s sometimes best to be stubborn with a patient. Sometimes they would rather do things that are not in their best interests.” She covers her mouth with a hand as she chuckles softly. She looks up to the sky with a warm smile. “An you are welcome. The leader of my company has a favorite saying. The words are in his native tongue but he says they mean ‘not alone’. So I am content to wait until you can walk away on your own safely. I have no where else I have to be today. No work to attend with the Order. I already finished the accounting before I came out here.”
Daisy who had been mostly content with fluttering about finally decided to take a seat on top of Riski’s head. Or at least attempt it. Which made Destiney chuckle at her sparkling companion. “Sorry. Daisy can be a handful at times.”
“Are you saying that you think I’m going to go do something stupid if you turn your back?” Riski asked, lifting his eyebrows in feigned surprise. “I’ll have you know that I,” he paused briefly, a grin tugging at the corner of his mouth, “would absolutely do that. Have we met before?” He shifted his position, pulling his knees up and resting his arms on them.
“So what’s your Order?” he asked, an obvious attempt to get Destiney to talk so he didn’t have to while in the electricity’s grip once more. He didn’t shoo the fairy off his head, letting her perch there undisturbed while he was held immobile – and even after the wave passed. He would continue to keep relatively still for her, rather than tilting his head as much as he usually tended to do while speaking to someone.
She hadn’t been expecting him to admit he would be the kind to go an get himself into more trouble. It was amusing none the less because he was at least good humored about it. Her eyes watched as he moved, curious if he was getting up. Not yet though apparently. Good. She was actually enjoying talking to him. Though she knew she was doing more talking then he was. She didn’t really mind though since he was probably doing it for a reason. She wasn’t the one who had been hit by a couerl after all.
“The Order of the Sword and Rose. It’s the free company I work for. I’m one of the healers. Though I also do the accounting and sometimes research. An a bit of…” her voice dropped for the final three words she was about to add, blush coloring her cheeks faintly. “novice fortune telling.” She coughed in attempt to cover the words quickly and shot a glare to her fairy companion who was laughing at her from her perch. She leans over towards him, attempting to swat at Daisy. The fairy merely dodges away an leaves her swiping at air. She sits back with a frown at the sparkling fairy as Daisy moves into the air in front of them. It might have looked childish but she stuck her tongue out at Daisy before continuing. “I tend to just do whatever they need me to do if I can do it. I enjoy being helpful.”
(Awww my poor Lance. He looks so sad from this camera angle. But he has good reason. Which I told @michisilver I planned to write about since we didn’t have a chance to RP it out with the fact I have company all weekend.)
Lance had been over the moon to go to that wedding as Miu’s date. Though being on display to her friends and free company had been a tad bit embarrassing. Though the mood had sobered up a bit once they had been alone. Well mostly alone even though one of her drunk friends slept on in the room next to where they had stood.
She had asked after his well being since it had been days since they had last met. He hadn’t wanted to worry her. Hadn’t wanted to admit he had an encounter with Savara. He had been in Camp Dragonhead at the time when Savara made yet another appearance. His wounds had been minor in comparison to those also injured in fending off the dragon. But he had not been able to lie to her. Not to Miu.
Unfortunately his work had kept her from seeing her again for a few days. Thankfully it had been an uneventful few days. No more injuries to report. Those that he had had were fine with a little healing help from Miu the last they were together. However…
He had not expected the wound that was dealt when he met with Miu last night. It was not physical but emotional. She had broken things off between them. His family had gotten between them. Not in a literal sense. But she had been worried about him. Worried about his future if they remained together. She had not also been ready. Seeing her ex-lover at the wedding had reminded her of painful times.
Lance’s fist hit the stone wall. The metal of his gauntlet protecting his hand from more then possibly bruising. He was disappointed and upset about this turn in his life. He heaved a sigh as he leaned against the wall, resting his forehead against the cold stone.
Miu wanted to remain his friend and steadfast ally. She still wanted to help him explore that dreaded place in his mad quest. Still cared about him. Just not in the way he had hoped. But he still had her in his life. They had only dated twice. He had hoped too soon. It was his own fault really. He knew better. But it still stung. Still hurt that his family was part of the reason for what happened last night.
As soon as he was released from duty for the day he went out into the cold frigid air of Coerthas. The air burned his lungs as he took a long walk. He needed to clear his head and his heart.
He would be fine. He knew he would be. He just needed a few days to process all that had happened. He would maintain a friendship with Miu. A ghost of a smile crossing his lips at the thought of her. He’d allow himself a few days to mourn what could have been. Then life would have to continue. He had a job to do. A life to live. A cousin to protect. An a High House to serve. Life would move on as it always did. He would not hide himself away forever. Just a few days. He just needed a few days.

(Thanks for asking @kyrelldreams & @kibuto. Both of you asked for the seashell one lol. An since you popped an ask I’m doing something special for you, Kyrell. Going to include Karigan for you in honor of our RP. 😀 Though I still need to finish her background. Not happy with what I did put up on the profile the other night.)
“I find the sound of rain to be soothing. No voices, no movement. Just the sound of the rain falling upon a roof or the trees. Or even the sound of a waterfall. The waves crashing. So pretty much just the sound of water in general.” A soft smile as she closes her eyes, thinking of one of those things she had just answered with.
She finally opens her eyes an tilts her head as she thinks upon the second question. “There are a lot of things I could wish for. An thinking about… If I wished for them an they came true I might be a different person today because of it. So in a way…” A tapping of her fingers against her desk. “I guess I would have to wish for the happiness and safety of those I love right now. Because as much as my past has hurt an broken me before… I’m glad I’ve ended up where I am right now. I’m glad to be with the people I can call my family. Even if a certain member… Is not particularly my favorite right now.”
“A soothing sound…” He puts a crooked finger up to his lips in thought on the question. It takes him a few moments before finally looking up again. “Music. Soft gentle music. Whether it be from an instrument or someone singing. Is not the saying music soothes the savage beast?” He laughs richly before waving his had as if to dismiss his own attempt at a joke. “Not that I am some savage beast mind you. But it does soothe this warrior’s heart.”
“As for one wish… That is difficult at best. There are many things I would like to wish for. Especially now. I guess… The best wish I could make would be to wish Haillenarte to be restored. It would mean less pain and suffering for the children of Haillenarte. I have so much respect for them an I hate to see them suffer for the fall of the Vigils. I wish I could ease their burdens.”
“My favorite sound that I find soothing is the wind. Howling or gentle. Because sometimes those howling winds mean a storm. I love storms but I also love to just enjoy a gentle breeze blowing through the trees and grasses. So definitely wind.” She says with a firm nod as she grins like a child with a prize.
“As for one wish… That’s a secret!” She holds up a finger an wiggles it back an forth like scolding someone. She laughs lightly before shrugging. “Well okay maybe it is not much of a secret. I wish to be a respected mercenary. I want to make a name for myself an earn respect. It’s a simple wish.”
Pictures~! Mostly from FC events. Which sometimes create wonderful picture chances for Dest. An I just had to leave the last one with the chat box cause it was hilarious. XD Chee had said something about Oni licking the doors. So Dest told him to go lick a door. An Oni got the right door up until Room 6. (Dest sitting on the fireplace was me being silly while helping Felix with his apartment decorations.)
