Well
that was unexpected. Though he had to agree that they seemed to be
rather sociable. He looked down as one pecked at the armor on his leg to
get his attention. He rooted through his pack and found a bit of
knight’s bread he usually kept on hand. Never knowing how long he might
be out and about rather then near civilization. Always handy to keep at
least a roll of the bread on him.

Lance crouched down and broke off a small piece and offered it up to
the curious crow, not even sure if they ate bread. “Hey there friend.
I’m Lancefer Aurifore. I work as a knight for House Haillenarte.” He
didn’t really feel that silly talking to a bird. Maybe just a little but
some animals were very intelligent creatures. So it was not really
totally strange to think they might actually understand him.

“My duty is about all I am good at. I’m not the heir of my household.
I’m not much for the merchant business. Though I am the eldest of the
children. I don’t mind. At least I am good at something.”

The crow’s mannerisms changed when Lance spoke to her as well as turning her attentions to the bread hungrily. A few more cautious steps towards the knight’s hand and she snatched the bread piece away from him before setting it down to feast on it. Svanielle was watching, and she couldn’t help but smile a little as a few other birds inched closer, some of them off to pick at the rewarded crow for a taste of the bread.

“Looks like they’re quite shocked that you’re so well mannered compared to the others…a knight of the House High then? So modest…not to say that others do not think the same way as you do, but it is rare for anyone to admit their limits in society for the sake of their pride.“

Lance laughed softly at the reactions from the crows over a bit of bread. He broke down the rest of the knight’s bread as he offered some to the rest who had not been as curious as the first.

“Manners were important to play the games among the upper class. Yet the modesty is something I learned from the men I served with over the years. Especially at Steel Vigil.” There was a hint of sorrow in those sky blue eyes before it was quickly gone again. Hidden behind a warm smile once more. “Besides for me honor is more important then pride. Something many have seemed to have lost over the years. That a knight is supposed to protect those that can not protect themselves. Not cause them further harm.”

His eyes widen a moment before he offers her a sheepish smile. “Not saying you can not protect yourself of course. I meant… Never mind. I should probably stop before I dig myself deeper shouldn’t I?”
