Was originally intended to be a Scholar and Adventurer. Even met my FC leader back before Heavensward on her with this idea for her as a character. Eventually she got shelved for a time because I couldn’t find a balance between Raiding and RP then I used the idea for Destiney instead just recently. Now she is a Mercenary in training.

Lance is the eldest of three children. He has a younger sister and younger brother. His brother is set to inherit everything instead of him. While he has not been outright disowned he is not thought highly by his father an grandfather because of choosing Haillenarte over Dzamael. The only thing expected of him as a child of the Aurifore is to marry well an keep the bloodline strong. (The whole thing with his cousin is something else entirely.)

She wasn’t originally supposed to be such a tragic backstory character. I tried to offset it with silly stuff like being a light weight happy drunk. An having this whole thing for dark skinned wildwood or duskwights. Yet writing for her has been a joy. Seeing her go from something broken an healing into someone stronger has been absolutely a delight to write for.

She had a really intense hate for Garleans and Imperials at one point. However after interactions with certain people in her FC she has somewhat changed. Does she still hate Garleans? Yes an no. Now she hates only those who were responsible for Carteanu where her father died in battle.

He was originally intended to be much different then the sweet cinnamon bun he became. He was supposed to be a snobby jerk. But as I was building him he became something else entirely. He became this gentle understanding man with a strong desire to serve House Haillenarte. Though he does have a competitive streak when it comes to sparring.

Myself: I originally bought FFXI for my brother to play. Ended up playing myself for 9yrs. Was a raider an everything. Though FFXI Destiney and Karigan eventually got stories towards the last few years of my gaming life on XI. If I hadn’t played XI I might never have played XIV. XI was my very first MMO.

Temperance: How does your character balance their life? / Strength in Reverse: What are your character’s doubts or insecurities? (for whomever you choose :) )

(Destiney really doesn’t have a real balance to her life. It’s more like organized chaos. She has a preference to always be doing something. Yet somehow she manages to keep everything in order and done in a timely manner. Even when she is relaxing she will have a book or notebook an still be occupied. So her balance is organized yet chaotic as there is never really moments where she does nothing. Doing nothing can mean dwelling on thoughts she doesn’t want to deal with.)

“Insecurities… I have plenty. Though they mostly only shine through the worst when I am feeling very low.“ She frowns an looks down at the wine in her glass, notebook filled with various scribbled notes. “My worst are that I’m not good enough. That for my lack of experience I will make a mistake. One that can’t be fixed. An that someday… I am going to lose someone because I wasn’t able to act because I am still unable to stand up to other people or go near a Castrum. I try my hardest to be strong. However even I have moments where my strength fails me.”

(Destiney is mostly happy where she is currently. I say mostly because she is still working through some problems. However the causes of those problems she no longer wishes she could change cause then she might have ended up somewhere else entirely then with the people she now calls family.)

Destiney runs her fingers over the rune carved into the light green stone. Eyes drifting away from it for a moment to the small handheld harp on the table. She reaches over an trails her fingers softly over the strings. It had been around three years. Still she held on to them as if it was the same as him still being here with her. She clutches the stone to her chest an takes a shaky breath. No tears came though. She missed him but… She had cried enough the day she lost him. Now these physical items were more of a comfort then a sadness. Something else had upset her today an she had come to her room just to be near these items. To remember his warmth an presence. He had always been able to make her feel calm again.

(No. Lance isn’t truly happy where he is right now. For various reasons. Though his life has gotten a bit brighter then the never ending winter of Coerthas and Ishgard. Leaving Ishgard territory to follow his cousin around has proven to be a change for the better. So he’ll eventually find a way to be completely happy.)

(Lance doesn’t really have anything he holds that is significantly important. Not physically anyways. Coming from an upper class family he put less value on objects then memories. Maybe eventually but for now no.)

(Of course she isn’t happy. But that doesn’t stop her from trying to find happiness. For her that would be finding a good team of mercenaries to take her in. Oh an being successful. She wants a better life. It’s a part of the reason she ran away from home. She wasn’t happy then an she still isn’t happy yet. But she knows she’ll get what she wants eventually. If she doesn’t run out of patience first.)

(She has one item she keeps regardless of everything in her life. A simple gold ring. It used to belong to her mother at one time when she was little. Her mother passed away and she kept the ring close. So even if she and her father are currently at odds, that ring never leaves her hand. If anyone tries to take it they better be ready for one hell of a fight. She’ll go all out to get that ring back or to protect it. It’s the only thing she kept when she left home.)

(His sense of humor is about average. He will sometimes make jokes but rarely does pranks. Doesn’t really do running jokes with puns. So his cousin is actually the one with a better sense of humor. However he tries to avoid joking around with people he barely knows, afraid of offending someone accidentally.)

A panicked scream. A flurry of movement. Destiney was bolting back away from the repulsive creature as her allies moved in to the fight. A Pudding had tried to sneak up on the group from behind.

“KeepItAway! KeepItAway!” Destiney rambled off as she hid behind the rest of her team. “Ew ew ew! It touched me!” She frantically rubs the sleeve of her jacket across the bare skin of her leg where the creature had touched her for just a moment.

(Anything slimy! Slimes, Puddings, Octopus, Toad tongues. 😛 If it leaves a slimy feeling behind by touching her she is going to freak out an panic.)

“Uh…” She hesitates at the question, ears flattening against her head. “I can’t turn down food even if it’s weird. When you spend some days living off what meager stuffs ya got then you rarely turn down food. But the weirdest so far is Tree Toad Legs. I don’t much like the stuff. But as I said, food is food.”

1. If your character was allowed to murder one person without any consequences, who would that person be and why?

“Whatever Garlean bastard decided on that fight that took my father’s life. He’s the one person I will never forgive. If I wanted to stain my hands with further blood it would be his.” – Destiney

“No one. I would not murder anyone. Not even because I hate them. Any who die by my blade it is because they deserved it for trying to attack something I am sworn to protect. In which case it is no longer murder.” – Lance

2. If your character had one thing to say to their parents before they died, what would it be?

“I love you and I’m so sorry.” – Destiney (OOC: Mostly in answer to the fact she did lose her father an the last time she saw him she never said good-bye and was angry with her parents.)

“I know you have never really approved of my choices but I do not regret them. I’m sorry that we could never come to an understanding an fix what was lost between us.” – Lance

3. Does your character get restless when things are too quiet or do they favour solitude and silence? Why?

“I favor solitude and silence most of the time. I’m not a fan of crowded places. Though I do also enjoy the noise of the Order. They are lively but they are family.” – Destiney

“The silence makes me restless. It usually comes before an attack. But… Noise can also make it hard to hear what is coming. So it is a bit of a mixed feeling. If I am somewhere safe then the silence can be a bit of a bother.” – Lance

4. Your character has been granted 3 wishes; what would they wish for and why?

“My family to be whole again for certain. The death of my father broke our family apart I feel. Leon to not have passed on so soon. I did not have enough time to appreciate everything he had to offer to me. And I would wish I was a better person. That I didn’t have these moments of such dark thoughts or anger that I hurt those I love with words that are not always meant.” – Destiney

“I would wish my family was not so stuck in ways long past. I want them to realize how foolish it is. I wish I could have saved Lord Choldebaimt at the Steel Vigil. He was a great man and did not deserve the fate he ended up with. An for Miu to be happy no matter what happens. My life will always have an element of danger to it. I don’t want to see her lose that smile if something happens to me.” – Lance

5. How does your character tell someone they love them without words?

“Hugs. They are the best way to say this without words. Without making someone believe I want more from them then their precious presence in my life.” – Destiney

“I find this hard to answer. I guess through my undying loyalty. I have only loved a few ladies in my days. My job has been my love for so long I’m a bit out of touch with the world an acceptable behavior.” – Lance

6. As a child, what did your character think they would be when they grew up?

“I thought I would be like my father. A member of the Gods’ Quiver. However things did not go as planned. Now I’m a healer like my mother. Oh the irony of it.” – Destiney

“I thought I would be a knight like my father and grandfather. I did become just that. However I did not join Dzemael. I chose Haillenarte instead. Not a decision I regret.” – Lance

7. Would your character ever cheat to accomplish something?

“That… Would depend what was at stake. Gambling? Bartering? No. It would have to be life or death to cheat. I don’t find cheating acceptable.” – Destiney

“Never. I am above such behavior.” – Lance

8. What does your character view as their worst personality trait?

“
Neuroticism. My emotions are not always stable. The worst my week is going the more likely I am going to be in very dark places in my emotional state.” – Destiney

“I can be
Obsessive. When I find something like the rumors of Lord Chlodebaimt’s spirit… I will not stop till I find out if there is any truth of these rumors.” – Lance

9. What’s something that really repulses them?

“Slimey creatures. Anything slimey in general. Keep it away!” – Destiney

“Touch. Being able to touch someone an know it is not a dream. That they are real an here.” – Destiney

“Sight. Being able to see. See what might be coming and fight back. Seeing Miu’s smiling face. If I had to live my life in darkness without sight… It would be sad world.” – Lance

11. What was something they struggled with greatly and how did they overcome it?
