Illusion – Any c:

Karigan sat there at the table, watching her father on the other side of the room. Bartering with a pair of men. Leaving her alone to find ways to amuse herself. She had already finished the book she had brought with her. So boredom now gnawed at her. Hands idly played with the gold ring around her finger. Her mother’s old ring scuffed and worn.

“Ready to go now, darling?” Her father asked warmly as he walked over to where she sat. “We just have a few more stops to make before we head back to the ship.”

“Yes papa.” She smiled brightly at her father as she collected her book off the table an followed after him out the door of the tavern into the light of the sunny day.

Karigan shook her head outside in the brightness. Gone was the place she had been moments ago. Tears began to sting her eyes. She had been out in the heat far too long. She was starting to see things now.

“Papa…” A note of longing on the simple word before her sad expression became a frown. She adjusted the braid of hair an looked around for a place of shade. She needed out of the heat before it kept making her see more illusions.

💬: Write a banter between two of your muses. (any :) )

Destiney’s hands went to her hips. Daisy perched lazily on her shoulder as she looked down at the Seeker sitting on the ground. How she had gotten stuck with such a… Insufferable woman she had no idea.

“Really?! You couldn’t just remain out of trouble for five ticks while I spoke with the man? No you had to go an get yourself into a fight. An what do you have to show for it?” Destiney throws her hands up in mild frustration. Not frustrated enough yet to smack the other woman in the head with her book though.

“I gots him to shut his gob.” Karigan says with a wide grin which made her wince as it pulled at the busted lip. “I don’t take kindly to bullies. Especially kinds like that one over there. Ya get me?”

Destiney sighs an kneels down to better deal with the Miqo’te woman. Gentle hands touched over wounds, sparkling gently with healing magic. “That is all well an good yet there are better ways of dealing with ilk like that then getting yourself busted up.”

“Meh. I deals with people like that however I please. I do thank ya for fixing me up right quick though.” Karigan’s smile wasn’t nearly as bright now but it was still there. Feeling slightly guilty for making the Elezen lass who had agreed to help her deal with this.

“I am a healer. It’s my job. Besides we aren’t finished with this job yet. I can’t very well leave you in this shape.” Destiney put a hand on top of Karigan’s head as she finished taking care of the minor injuries. “All better. Now let’s get moving.”

Archetype: Karigan

your archetype is the doppelgänger.

traits: manipulative, self deprecating, intelligent, knowledgable, ambiguous, caring

the doppelgänger is most commonly used to symbolize the divide between two egos, or a the grey line between good and bad. doppelgängers are extremely intelligent, and are able to manipulate a persons thoughts and feelings for their own benefit. while they are seen as a darker character, they are closer to being morally ambiguous, if not, someone who has been forced into a position they never agreed upon. doppelgängers wish they could do better, and often find themselves regretting not doing something. while they are capable of manipulating others, they are vulnerable, making themselves susceptible to being manipulated as well. although many of their traits are negative, they crave attention, validation, and wish they could be a better version of themselves. if you can get under their hard exterior, you’ll find a true friend, and a loyalist.

Dusk’s expression turned into one of worry when he noticed the Miqo’te losing her balance and was about to make an attempt to catch her when the barely half eaten apple suddenly dropped on his head with a thud after its long fall, distracting him enough to miss Karigan’s fall.

He looked at her in surprise, lightly rubbing the spot on top of his head the fruit had hit him. “You… Meant to hit me with the apple..?” he wondered loudly to her comment, unsure of which event she referred to as he walked over to her.

Going down on one knee he offered a hand to help her up, still with surprise mixed with a bit of confusion on his face. The expression soon faded though as a careful smile appeared in its stead, leaving his question behind to focus on the task at hand and going back to the mission.

“I’ll do better. Not get in trouble!” He reassure the other, ready to try again.

@nebula1984

Karigan blinked at him for a moment as he wondered out loud if she meant to hit him with the apple. It took her a moment to process that he had mistaken her comment for the wrong thing. Apparently falling on her backside an then making that comment hadn’t been paired together.

Laughter rang out from her as he knelt before her. It wasn’t that she thought his words of doing better were funny. She was still caught up on the apple hitting him an thinking she had done it on purpose. She gives him a toothy grin as she finally calms down, taking that offered hand to get back to her feet.

“I didn’t mean to hit ya with the apple. That was an accident. Honest.” She brushes the dirt off her shorts once standing once more. “Hows about we both do better an not get in trouble. I mean ya are talking to someone who gets in trouble on a daily basis.” A small grin as she puts her hands on her hips. “Mercenary life ain’t easy. Shall we try again then?”

It was supposed to be a simple yet kind gesture; accompany the Miqo’te through a dangerous area. But so much had gone wrong and the two barely escaped in one piece at the end. Stressed from the run and frustrated at the temporary companion the Miqo’te had shared her thoughts to him in a single short line of blame.

Dusk flinched to the comment. ‘His fault?’ He repeated in his mind, feeling anger rise to have the blame put on him even after he was the one who managed to get them out of the danger in the end. His brow furrowed and his visible eye turned dark as he roared back in defense to her statement, equally frustrated as her.

Turning quickly on his heel once he made his thoughts clear he left the Miqo’te there. Being alone on his way however and thinking of the situations they just made it through he slowly came to realize the mistakes he had made which ultimately had put them in the dangerous situation to begin with.

Rage turned into regret and the frown turned into an expression of sadness. He just wanted to help but had failed, then just made things worse by leaving. Suddenly feeling the need to make up for his mistake he once again spun around to hurry back in hope the girl would still be there. Of course she wasn’t.

With a heavy sigh and troubled eyes he scanned the area around to try find the Miqo’te without result. Dusk turned his gaze to the ground, disappointed in himself and sad he wouldn’t get the chance to make things up.

Karigan had hated the idea of asking for help if she could avoid it. This job though was more then she was ready to handle alone. So naturally she had had to look around for someone willing to help a young mercenary. Managed to recruit a sturdy looking Au Ra gentleman. Not that she knew much about the race or their clans. She just knew he looked tough.

Of course if things could go wrong they did. When they were safe she had shouted at him. She was angry an frustrated. More at herself then at him in general. They had both made mistakes. What she hadn’t expected was his roar of response. She managed to avoid flinching. Just barely. She held onto her anger like a blade, sharp an dangerous. At least until he stormed off.

She scaled a nearby tree that had a good solid branch to perch upon. A heavy sigh as she fished a faerie apple from her bag, staring at the ruby color. He had had every right to yell at her when she had blamed him. They had both been at fault for their mad dash to safety. Her ears drooped as she took a bite of the apple. Normally she wasn’t one to be so mean. Vocal yes but never truly had she ever blamed someone helping her. Though it was something she probably would have done eventually to someone.

Her ears perked up as she heard footsteps nearby. Apple half eaten hanging from her mouth. Her eyes widened in surprise. He had come back. Though part of her wondered if it was to yell at her again. He did have every right to since she had let her anger get the better of her.

“If ya came back to yell some more, get it over with.” Karigan called down from the branch she sat on, looking at the apple rather then at him. She thought about dropping it down towards his head but had chosen rather to speak instead. He didn’t really deserve a half eaten apple dropped on his head. “I deserves it. I was wrong to treat ya like that.”

His head perked up at the voice, startled and looking around to find the source before realizing it came from above him. Surprised to see the Miqo’te up in the tree yet relived that she was still here. Now he just hoped she would let him be her companion again to make up for the mistake.

With slumped shoulders to show his shame he shook his head lightly to dismiss what she said as he looked up at her with concern. “I’m sorry for getting us in trouble…” He said with a sad tone. “Can I still help you?”

Nervous about the answer his gaze turned to the ground, ready for a rejection and having to travel alone again.

Blue cats eyes stared down at Dusk, giving him a long assessing stare. Her tail swished back an forth gently behind her, ears twitching ever so slightly. It was a long moment of silence from the seeker in the tree. She leans forward slightly to better look down at him.

“I don’t see why not. I can’t very well finish the job on my own.” She shrugs an takes another bite of the apple. Inside she was actually very relieved that he had offered to help still. It saved her the time of finding someone else to help her finish. As well as he hadn’t been all that bad despite the chaos they had gotten into. Not that she couldn’t get into enough trouble on her own of course.

Of course she had leaned a bit too far forward an upset her own balance on the branch. Her arms pinwheeled to try an regain her balance. In the process… Whoops. There went the apple sailing up into the air for a moment before dropping down towards Dusk’s head. Karigan came tumbling down after but not towards the Xaela. She did land on her feet first but only to wind up falling backwards onto her butt.

“I meant to do that…” Her cheeks turned pink in embarrassment.

“Do I…know you?”
“Have we met before?”
“Are you sure I don’t know you?”

“I don’t think we’ve met yet.”
“May I have this dance?”
“You look positively enchanting this evening.”
“I’d know those dazzling eyes anywhere.”
“These skirts make it so hard to move.”
“Some of these costumes are so extravagant. They must have cost a fortune.”
“You look quite ravishing in that dress.”
“You look quite handsome in that suit.”
“Can I see your face?”

“I feel like I’m rubbing elbows with the queen right now.”
“Care to sneak away with me? I doubt we will be missed.”

“I can’t hear you through that mask. Did you really have to choose one that covers your mouth?”

“You’ve spent the entire evening at the snack table.”
“Can I cut in?”

“I’m not supposed to be here. If they catch me I’m in trouble!”
“Please. What is your name? I want to see you again.”

What is an activity or hobby that your muse might say is foolish or dumb, but secretly wants to do?

image

(This was a tough one an really made me think hard about it. Only going to answer this for Destiney though. I haven’t decided for the other two characters. Thanks for asking @house-vexile)

Destiney always says she thinks the activities and games at the Gold Saucer are dumb. That gambling is foolish. But that is partly because she has such poor luck when it comes to gambling. However it is also something she secretly wants to do. Including actually becoming a decent Triad player.)

“If you don’t rest, you won’t heal.” – Your choice :3

Karigan sat up slowly. The pain made her ache all over. But if there was anything she hated more… It was being idle. Being idle meant no work was being done. Training was being missed. None of that was good to her. She spent many days living day to day on what she had.

Her fingers traced over bandages on her left arm. Slowly she began to check over the rest of her. More bandages in other places. Pieces of what she had been doing last before ending up in a bed at a inn began to filter back to her. The job had been dealing with pirates. Too many… Their numbers had overwhelmed her. Even all her training had done her no good.

“If you don’t rest, you won’t heal.”

Kari’s ears flattened against her head as she heard the woman speak. Blue cat’s eyes stared at the strange elezen woman. Possibly her savior. Her memory was foggy after a point of the fight.

“I’m fine. Right as rain.” Karigan said as she forced a smile. A sudden movement made her wince an nearly fall back to the pillow behind her. Maybe not so fine… “Okay I lied… But I can’t rest… I can’t afford this. I need to get back out there.”
