Prompt #15: Open Skies

image

Marielle closed her eyes as she took a deep breath. The weather of Dravania was perfect today. Fluffy white clouds and weather warm enough for a nap. She extended her arms as she tipped her head back. Enjoying the feel of the open air all around her as she stood at the edge of the plateau.

Sky, her chocobo, stood nearby. It wasn’t the same as having wings of your own. Yet her feathered friend worked pretty well for moments like this. Flying her up here to a nice open space. A space perfect for a nap. Just like when she was a child.

Marielle laid down and stared up at the sky above. Just watching the clouds float by in their lazy slow motion. Sky taking a hint to curl up and nap. Blue squawked at the two of them before giving up. The baby raptor hopped up onto Sky to curl up as well.

Oh how Marielle missed soaring the skies. Laying on the plateau with the breeze flowing by just wasn’t the same. Yet it still helped to ease the ache of the thing she missed the most.

Prompt #16: Threads

image

Bonds. Connected by a thread of fate. No matter the distance. We will always find each other again.

image

Sometimes the connection between two people is the most unlikely thing you would think could happen. That they don’t fit together. But somehow it works. They fit. Like the missing pieces of a bigger whole. That the one half fits into that broken and jagged half so perfectly to make a whole.

Alex couldn’t help but fall for the small raen healer. She didn’t see him as beyond help. She believed he could change. Be better then he was. For her he was willing to fight to make that true. For Sanagi.

“You’re mine. I love you, Sana.”

image

Sometimes it takes that one bright and shining soul. The shining light that can break through the darkness and take that person by the hand. Guide them from the darkness and the pain. Let them heal and smile once more.

She had been hurt and used. The memories clearly still haunted her. Yet she was still the sweet little bird who had flown to his side when he made a mistake and gotten injured. Whose smile made him want to offer her the world if he could. Just to see her continue to smile. To keep his sweet rose from withdrawing back into the pain. To see her true worth. Especially in Valen’s eyes.

“Such a pretty flower, You shouldn’t hide away.”

image

To find that something the soul longs for. To truly live again. As that thread of fate is pulled and tugged. Sometimes gently. Sometimes shoved and pulled. As if the hands of fate are truly at work.

Lance wasn’t looking for someone. Had pretty much given up hope on such an ideal at his age. Duty. He lived for duty to the High House he served. Then in walked an angel. He could have sworn Halone herself had sent this woman to him. A tug towards the lady who offered her kindness and help to quiet the pain. Still he remained guarded yet. So afraid to let anyone close to him after all that had happened. Maybe he really did need a shove by Halone.

“Kyna, I shall do my best. I hope you will continue to help me through this.”

image

Sometimes that is all one truly needs. A hope. A guiding hand. To find a bond so very needed. A bond that gives them strength and steel. Makes them stronger rather then weaker. A bond that they would fight tooth and nail to protect.

Silent wings. Silent songs. A calling neither answered. Yet a small hope began to bloom as the dragon began to find herself craving the next meeting with the small miqo’te woman. So many people she couldn’t trust with the truth. Yet Bodge… Bodge she could trust. Bodge was the first person she had trusted since Roselle.

“Bodge friend, would you like some berries?”

image

Yet no two bonds are exactly alike. Each one is unique. Each one is special. As that red thread of fate brings them together. No matter the distance, they will find each other.

Destiney had been cautious at first. Not sure she wanted to love again. More then once she had been shot down, left feeling unworthy. Then along came the wolf to steal the maiden’s heart. She handed it over to him so willingly. Found herself wanting nothing more then to stay by his side. To have a family with him.

“I love you, Syluss.”

Prompt #2: Silenced

Freedom. That was what flight was. Soaring those seemingly endless skies had always been a source of freedom to her. Even in the less then favorable weather to most. Storms? She loved them. Flying in them never scared her.

Marielle set down on bare feet in the grass and moss of the forest floor. Something was off here though. Everything was too… Quiet. The usual sounds of wildlife were totally absent beyond the gentle flowing water of the small stream. Her eyes narrowed as she looked around.

The strange silence suddenly broken by a hiss of pain. Mari covered her right eye with a hand. Heavens above the pain… Mari staggered, turning as a sudden cackle sounded off to her right. But there was nothing there. Nothing that she could see. Trying to grasp her power only caused her agonizing pain. Dropping to her knees as she tried to figure out what was going on.

Only to find herself suddenly opening her eyes to the starry sky above. Fingers gently touched the mark over her right eye. There was no pain. But her power… It was still effectively silenced. Her freedom gone.

Mari sighed softly as she climbed to her feet. She hadn’t really needed the sleep. Instead she went back to gathering some more herbs nearby. Even some more berries. Needed more berries to share with Bodge after all.

Tonight was just a bad night for rest. The dream didn’t come about all that often. But it was a painful reminder of what she had once had.

Bad Things Happen Bingo – Prompt Fall Through the Ice

Character: Marielle Valeroyant

It hadn’t looked that hard. But something had changed. The land had changed. Even something was different with the aether after the great dreadwyrm had crossed the skies in fiery rage.

Svitlana had expected a chilly but green Coerthas. Not the winter storm she was flying through now. Coerthas had always seemed so green from the edges of the Dravania. Not this. Nothing but ice and snow for miles. A shiver when over the young dragonet’s body.

If she had waited much longer to run, it would be harder to avoid the Ishgardians. She was just nearly to her adolescence. Her size would soon make it much harder to hide without using glamor. But to travel this distance looking like a spoken? She would surely die to these cold temperatures.

Her wings felt so tired. This cold was much harder to deal with then she would have expected. After all snow like this? Unheard of in Dravania. The small green and gold dragonet had finally had enough. Setting down on a patch of ice that looked safe enough. A part of her just wanted to take a nap but she knew that was a bad idea. She just needed a few moments of time.

There was the sound of a crack. Like a tree branch. Or she thought it sounded like a tree branch. Tilting her head as she listened more noise. Another crack. Looking down now as she realized the sound was beneath her feet. But not quite quick enough to move in time.

The ice gave way beneath her as she panicked. If only she hadn’t panicked she might not have fallen into the freezing cold waters beneath the ice. Swimming would have been easier if she had been calm. Everything was just chaos as she flailed her feet and wings in an attempt not to drown. Just as she thought she had her chance to get away from this war and the ever present threats of death by Ishgardians… This was the way her life would end? Barely lived. Her body just felt so tired.

Suddenly there was air. Bitter cold air. Svitlana coughed and took gulps of air. Not realizing there were Spoken hands holding her. Someone had rescued her from death. But she was just too cold to care even as a blanket was wrapped around her. Fighting to try and keep her eyes open wasn’t working.

“Shhh now, little one.”

The touch and voice was calming. Svitlana shut her eyes and let herself drift off.

~*~

Groggy purple dragon eyes blinked when she finally woke once more. Looking around at the warm cozy cottage she was in. Hearing the sound of the howling wind against the window nearby. Svitlana tilted her head as she looked over at the Spoken woman sitting in the chair by the fire. Continuing to look around and take note of an impressive set of armor and a spear near the door.

So she was still alive. Sleep had done good to heal her body but what situation was she in now. Svitlana closed her eyes and focused. Remembering what she had been taught about glamor. This Spoken might not understand dragonspeak. Speaking to her in Spoken tongue might be easier. With a rush of power and aether, Svitlana took the glamor of a naked duskwight woman. Younger than the woman in the chair but similar in appearance. After all she needed someone to use as a model for this trick still despite practicing on the Spoken at Tailfeather. Her hair retained the colors of her dragon scales.

“Cold.” Svitlana shivered and pulled the blanket around her shoulders. The woman by the fire looked both startled and surprised at the sudden woman where the dragonet had been before.

“Halone have mercy…” The prayer was muttered before the woman shook the surprise from herself. “Little dragonet?”

“Cold.” Svitlana repeated as she hugged the blanket tighter. This earned her another shake of the woman’s head as another blanket was retrieved and placed around Svitlana’s shoulders. “Thank you.”

“I’m not surprised you’re suddenly cold. You went from scales to a naked woman. Younglings.” The woman seemed warm enough as she went over to what served as the kitchen. Bustling about to make something hot for her guest to eat. “If you can speak our tongue, what in the Halone’s name were you doing out in this blizzard?”

“Scared. Of the war. Please don’t kill me.” Svitlana shrank back into the blankets as she watched the woman with wary purple eyes.

“Kill you? After I saved you? Nah. Not worth the trouble. I gave up fighting for Ishgard a long time ago. Getting too old.” The woman pointing up towards her graying hair and wrinkles. “I just wanted to live out my days in peace. Just happened to be passing the spot you fell through the ice. What is your name, little one?”

“Svitlana. I seek safety and peace as well.” Marielle curiously watched as the woman began making a stew. Sniffing the air at the smell of food cooking.

“Pretty name. Though if you’re seeking safety you’ll need a less… Dragon name. Do you like Marielle?” Leaving the stew to heat as she leaned against the counter and looked towards Svitlana. “My name is Roselle.”

“Marielle…” Svitlana tilted her head as she tried the name. There was silence for a moment before Svitlana nodded and looked hopefully towards the stew. “Marielle. I’m hungry, Roselle.”

Roselle just laughed, earning her a happy smile from Svitlana. No. Marielle. It was the name she would have to get used to if she wanted to survive. Hopefully she could learn enough from Roselle to be able to manage that.
