♣ — a fading memory

He had been young still. Not yet beholden to any house. It was just shortly after he had begun his training with his father.

Still he was going to be a knight! Bruises and cuts were minor in comparison. He wanted to be like his father and grandfather. He wanted nothing more then to serve his family and his nation. To make his family proud. Thoughts of serving a High House were the last thing on his mind at this age.

However he had wandered down towards the Brume a bit too far today while lost in his thoughts. Soon he found himself surrounded by four Brume kids. All taller and rough looking. He was a upper class kid in the wrong side of town. Lance only had his wooden sword for training with him. Something his father insisted he should carry. To get used to the weight of a weapon.

He tried to defend himself. Tried to fight back. Four on one for a yet rather untrained boy were odds he didn’t stand a chance with. Yet suddenly they scattered like rats. Lance wiped at his bloody nose as he looked around to see what had caused them to suddenly run off. He caught sight of his father’s displeased face. Though that look was not directed at him but rather the kids who had run off.

Lance tried to fight off the urge to cry to his father. His father expected him to be tough. To take the blows and keep on fighting. So Lance stood up and tried to hold his head high despite the pain and blood. Vairemont finally turned to look at his son with a soft sigh. He took Lance’s chin in his hand and began to inspect the damage done to the boy.

“Nothing too badly it seems. We shall have to work on your skills against multiple opponents I see. Come let’s go back to the house and get you cleaned up. There will be no training today.” Vairemont said as he took a cloth from his pocket and began to gently wipe the blood away on Lance’s face.

(Thanks @kindlingdusk Sorry for the long wait.)

Memory Prompts

❥ — a childhood memory @ Destiney please? ^^

Elle sighed as she got comfortable sitting on the stump. Watching over the small group of children playing nearby. They had to be around the age of five or six. Still young and bright. Untainted by the problems of the world. Her children were among the four playing.

A young Destiney looked over to her mother and waved with a bright happy smile. Her brother looking happy for once rather then the grumpy and miserable young man he would eventually become. With the two Delvanguard children were Dekkarra and Atix.

Elle couldn’t resist smiling at the joy of the children. Watching them chase each other or a ball. The contagious laughter that kept drifting over towards her. Sometimes a squeal of delight or playful panic.

“Momma! Momma!” Destiney ran over to her mother, tears on her cheeks. Her elbow was scrapped up and bleeding from a fall. Elle smiled warmly down at her baby girl as she wiped away the tears before taking the injured elbow in her hands.

“It’s okay sweetheart. Momma will make it better.” Elle said soothingly to Destiney as she reached into her bag to find something to clean it with before healing it. She patted the girl on the head lovingly as she finished. Shooing her to go back to playing with her brother and friends.

Memory Prompts

☽ — a memory of their father

Destiney knew she was in trouble before she had even made it in the door. Her clothes were covered in dirt and mud. She and Atix had gone off on their own in the woods. Even though the guild leader had warned them against wandering too far. To show for their venture Atix had hurt his leg and they were both filthy.

She had left Atix outside with her mother where she could tend to the injury he had gotten in the fall. Now she had to face her father who had more then likely already heard of their adventure from the guild leader. She knocked lightly before entering, not looking up to see how much she felt her father would be disappointed in her.

“Destiney.” She flinched at the sound of her name said by her father. Though her eyes widened in surprise as he embraced her warmly. “Don’t ever do that again. When the guild leader came back to tell me you and your friend had vanished… Your mother and I already lost your brother. Please don’t worry us like that.”

“I’m sorry, papa.” Destiney rested her head against her father’s chest. She knew her parents were considering her brother dead for as long as he had been missing.

“You realize this means extra chores as punishment yes?”

“Of course, papa. I didn’t mean for anything bad to happen. I just wanted to have a bit of fun and explore.” Destiney said when her father finally released her from the hug.

“Things are dangerous, dear one. I’m glad the two of you came back safe enough. There is talk of even more dangerous times ahead. I just want you safe. Both of us want you safe.” He affectionately ruffled her hair as he smiled warmly. “Now go get cleaned up. I’m sure your friend is in good hands with your mother. I have work to get ready for. We’ll discuss your punishment further when I get home from duty.”

(Thanks! @ikara-esho and @ghostly0rigins for the mention. A sort of continuation of this here.)
