Stefan Delvanguard raises a eyebrow at that visual dismissal. Esper sitting down at his feet and looking up at him. “Of course. Your stance is wrong as was your approach. Your seeming lack of realizing I was even here as you walked up. Your carbuncle is not very reliable if Fran never warned you.”
Cora Murdoch turns to look at Fran, a small genuine smile pulling at the edges of her lips, “Fran likes to be contrary when we’re not in a life and death situation. I honestly didn’t realize you were there until I was almost here.”
Stefan Delvanguard gives Esper a dry look. “I know that feeling all too well. Don’t I, Esper?” Esper just sits there looking rather like a pleased cat. “It must be a ruby carbuncle thing…” He finally uncrosses his arms as he relaxes his stance once more. “I do not particularly like people coming up behind me. It’s one of the few times this one decides to actually do as he’s supposed to.”
“Indeed. I’ve noticed that Fran has more…life than when I learned to summon Topaz and Emerald. Mayhaps tis because we give them Names. My apologies if I made you uncomfortable, twasn’t my intention.” She really does seem genuinely sorry.
Stefan Delvanguard shakes his head before shrugging slightly. “I merely have a thing against people behind me. A unfortunate incident in some ruins.” Esper rubs against his leg, making him roll his eyes before kneeling down to rub the carbuncle’s head. “They do indeed have more life to them. Perhaps it is because we have named them and gotten attached to having them at our sides. Mayhaps it will be something I decide to research someday. For now I will stick to Nymian or Gelmorran ruins.”
Cora Murdoch hums lowly. “You search the ruins often Master Delvanguard?
"Stefan is fine. Yes I do. It is how I make my living. Especially since teaching my sibling and helping her company do not exactly earn me any coin. Though I prefer to work alone. Less hazardous.”
Cora Murdoch tilts her head, “Indeed, less to worry about as well.”
Stefan still wasn’t sure why he had let his sister talk him into such an idea. Filling in for her for a night with her Free Company. Had even dressed in what he had thought might be appropriate.
Yet he still stood out among them. The outsider among a group of people who trusted and liked each other. A part of him wishing he could blend in better among them. However these were his sister’s friends. Her allies.
He didn’t belong.
The best he could do was keep his opinions to himself. Try not to give them any reason to dislike him. Even when Nathaniel had called him a name… He kept his tongue. At least till later when he was alone with Anata.
Once free from helping them, he went back to his apartment. Sitting down at the piano. Fingers lightly dancing over the keys as Esper came to sit on top of the piano. Losing himself in the music. No more pressure to blend in. Here he could be himself. Just him and Esper.
“It doesn’t matter. I do not need a group. As long as I have you.” Stefan smiled sadly at Esper before pausing the song to reach up and scratch under the carbuncle’s chin. “You don’t require me to blend in.”
You are good at making decisions; you have a clear sense of what
needs to be done and what others should be doing. Played out inside
yourself, this tendency drives you to value willpower and self-control.
You may be accused of bossiness. But acting on your desire to dissuade,
restrain or guide is often appreciated by others – who might secretly
like a clear direction, and some firmness.
Orderliness
You love it when everything is neat and tidy: when there is a proper
way of doing things, and you can tick things off the to-do list and know
where everything is. So others, at times, are to you unbearably sloppy
and messy. And you run into things that can’t be ordered (a child, a
partner, a colleague at work) which drives you slightly nuts. But your
desire for order is a good one when it is focused where it is needed
and when you’re okay with a bit of mess.
Misanthropy
You have seen the darker side of human nature, even in daily life.
When you look beneath the surface everyone is pretty messed up; there’s
more selfishness circulating that others admit. You are never surprised
by the stupidity of others, even though it annoys you. Your streak of
misanthropy is, in fact, a requirement of remaining sane. You’ve wisely
come to terms with your need to sometimes confidently reject people.
Yuti Kyis did her best not to look too intimidated by the large Auri man but… well it was a challenge. Those eyes were fierce. Still, she’d had her fair share of encounters and at least he seemed to be a friend of L’ania’s. Yuti frowned for a moment at the coat draped over L’ania and then at the man again, a quiet hmm escaping her lips before she approached. “H-hello Stefan, L’ania,” she said politely, before bowing her head to the stranger. “I am Y-Yuti Kyis, a-at your service. S-sorry to bother, but I was hoping to see L’ania b-before I had to go off somewhere.” Her smile widened and she raised the tray into the air. “I b-brought hot chocolate! B-but since it’s Thanalan a-and that’s not very good for the weather, I c-cooled it down so it’s r-really more like regular chocolate and…” she trailed off, blushed and raised the tray again. “A-anyway, I brought enough for everyone!”
Stefan Delvanguard finally looked away from Kyoudo to look at the new arrival. Of course a face he recognized. “Good day to you, Miss Yuti. There is nothing to interrupt I’m afraid. Just telling Miss L’ania’s friend I do not appericate the looks I’ve been getting since I arrived with medicines from the Guild in Ul’dah.” Nodding his head in thanks as he took the offered drink in one hand while his other was still holding medicine bottles.
L’ania Hena ’s tail swished a couple times, relaxing as Kyoudo didn’t seem to be ready to kill Stefan anymore. Her hand was still on his chest, with his hand over hers and she turned it enough to give his hand a soft squeeze of reassurance before pulling away. She grinned happily at Yuti, “Oh you know Stefan? We just met by chance. Her ears wiggled as she introduced Yuti to Kyoudo, “Yuti is one of my dearest friends.” The chocolate made her grin, “Oooooh!” She took it with a small bow of thanks.
Kyoudo Komainu mildly froze as L’ania’s hand squirmed under his to give the bulk of his a squeeze. Reaching for her hand had been one thing, but just like the night before, her doing it of her own volition was enough to cause him to tense. Especially given he had wanted nothing more, just moments prior, to strangle the life out of Stefan with the very hand she touched. No, they were not meant for the gentler things, and he took a step away as her hand retreated. He was grateful for the hot chocolate as it gave his hands a different focus, and the cup shrank considerably from Yuti’s hand to his. He threw himself onto the ground without reservation and despite the frown set on his lips, he stared ahead as he sipped from the very small, petite cup he held with but two fingers.
Okay so technically I’m a derp. An forgot to mention this to friends I have through here or discord beyond my LS and FC. >.>;; Technically Stefan can’t be present since I can’t be on two characters at once. (/sad)
Anyways! Back to the point. Destiney and Stefan (yay for twins) celebrate their nameday this friday (as do I) but since I will have family aggro for dinner and a FC mission that night… XD Dest is having a small party Thursday night instead! Anyone who knows Dest (or is a friend of someone already invited) ICly is welcome to pop by her house in the Goblet Thursday night.
Goblet Ward 12 Sub Plot 50 Brimming Heart. Anywhere from 8pm est until whenever things wind down. (Have to have time for my roulettes after work~!) Yes it is an IC party outside in the yard and the small bar beyond in the new swimming area. Gifts are not expected. Just company to make this time of year a little better. 🙂
( @tidusyumemiru@samurulantis@wowiedima anyone else I don’t see much and might want to pop by. It’s an IC party so warn me ahead of time if you are just dropping by OOCly. :D)
Stefan sighed as he shook his head at his twin. “No. Try again!”
“Oh stuff it!” Destiney grumbled as she glared daggers at her brother. The heat of Thanalan and aether usage was making her irritable.
“Use your wit, sister. Neither of us has the brawn to overpower a foe. We have to use our brains. “Try the spell again. You have to get better with fire aether. I know you can heal just fine but out there in the field with those… With your Company…” Correcting the term quickly that he was going to use instead. “You wanted to be able to protect others and yourself. You wanted to fight back. So fight damn it! Do. The. Spell. Again.”
Destiney gives him another exasperated look before returning to the dummy. This was the one downside about asking her brother for help. He lacked patience for teaching. At least Lance was more patient with her when it came to working with blades. Stefan on the other hand… She wanted to strangle her brother lovingly right now.
(Another one set in the past. Pretty sure I never really wrote out what happened when Dest found Stefan the first time after everything that happened. So now I will!)
Destiney sighed softly as she wandered through the streets of Ul’dah alone. Maybe she should have allowed her husband to accompany her after all. At least his presence would have been a small comfort in this city.
Why he wanted to start over around here… She’d never know. Yet at the same time she needed the fresh start. At least here it wasn’t cold. Though she missed the woods too. Perhaps this was for the best. She needed time to recover mentally from everything. Right now the woods just reminded her of all she had lost.
Her father… Leon…
No it was best that she came here with her husband for that fresh start. Neither had died in the Shroud but it still reminded her that they were gone.
What bothered her most was she had heard rumors. Sightings of a hyuran man with slightly pointed ears. It could easily be someone else entirely. Yet part of her hoped it was her brother. Even all these years later. There was no way he knew what had befallen their father. Not since he had run away before it had happened.
Her queries lead her towards the guild at the far end of town. A guild of mages studying black magic. In a way that didn’t surprise her. Her bother had always had an obsession with the arcane. Even when they were younger. Always her opposite even though they were twins.
Walking into the guild felt awkward since she wasn’t there to join or even study. Though her steps faltered when they fell on a face she would have known anywhere. A small fuzzy ruby head perking up at her attention on it’s master. The boy… No the man. Her brother was no longer a boy. His nose buried in a book as always. The same intelligent blue eyes met hers when the carbuncle finally nudged the leg of her brother.
“Stefan…” Destiney barely breathed his name. Wondering if he’d really recognize her now. With all that she had been through. The change to her hair. The clothes that no longer fit a simple shourdling archer.
What should have been joy to see her brother alive and well shifted into anger. He had left them all. The hurt at him abandoning them. The fact he was just here as if it didn’t matter. Didn’t matter that they had lost their father.
Destiney stalked over to her brother as he closed his book. Esper tilting his head curiously at the woman. The crack of skin against skin made everyone around them pause what they were doing to look. Stefan raising a hand to his cheek as he stared wide-eyed at his sister. Angry tears gathered in her eyes as she stared at him.
“How could you!” She kept her voice down but it was still colored with the rage at his actions. “How could you leave us like that! Here you are as if nothing matters! As if father dying means nothing to you!”
“W-What?!” Stefan looked taken back by both her words and actions. Never mind the stares at their little scene.
“He’s dead!” Destiney hissed at him. “The Garleans killed him! If you had been there…” Tears began to fall down her cheeks as she tried to find what she wanted to say. But what could she really say? There was probably nothing that could have changed what had happened… Finally giving up and turning away in a hurry. Rushing out of the building. Leaving a shocked Stefan alone with a very confused Esper.
“Destiney…” A mix of emotions going over him as he kept a hand over the cheek his sister had slapped. Esper gently nudged his leg before giving him a worried stare. He knelt down to rest a hand on Esper’s head. This way his face was out of view of others. No one could see his own tears. The pain of that news… The hurt at his sister’s anger… The sister that had always protected him even when he didn’t want it. It was all his fault… He should have known his actions would eventually come back to bite him in the end. Just hadn’t thought things would turn out like this. The slap had been more then deserved.
