Riol: What’s my character’s greatest success?

(Finding her way into the ranks of the Order. Or at least I think that has been her greatest success. She had been finding her place in the world with them and healing from her past. With them she feels safe and happy most of the time. Even if Oni does sometimes turn her hair blue with his antics. She would probably consider not failing the Order so far as her own greatest success in her point of view.)

(Lance’s greatest success is hard. He’d probably say surviving this war and the Steel Vigil. While I think it’s more just surviving the things his family has been putting him through recently and what is to come.)

“Of course I can swim. I grew up in the Twelveswood. It might not have the ocean but there are enough bodies of water that were deep enough for a kid to learn how to swim. I very much like the water.”

“Sadly no. My father wasn’t big on us learning things that were not needed as I was growing up. An then Coerthas and Ishgard froze over because of the Calamity. I do not fancy the idea of learning to swim in icy waters. Otherwise swimming has never really come to mind. Never seemed like something I needed to know how to do.”

(Karigan knows how to swim but won’t go near water that you can’t just safely stand in. Not after she nearly drowned once. That was all the more she needed to avoid going anywhere near boats or water again. Not that it was her fault. It was stormy and the ocean is never friendly in a storm.)

(Oh gawd… She isn’t one to talk about her past. An highly unlikely to discuss what she was like as a kid. So I guess I’m answering for her. 😛 Stubborn catte. Karigan was nothing like she is now. She was quiet and very much a loner. I mean she is still sort of a loner but she is far from quiet now. She was definitely not as active as she is now. She more enjoyed sticking her nose in a book an being left alone. Things happened in her teenage years that changed her from the quiet catte to the bold and sassy thing she is now.)

“I try not to let what other people do bother me. At least not so openly. I’ve gotten pretty good at pretending things are fine. Unless that person is bullying someone or insulting the Haillenarte name. Then I am highly unlikely to keep my mouth shut.”

(An people who make his cousin cry gets on his nerves too. XD Though he’s not going to openly admit that. But he did challenge Nate to a fight because of it. Even though Nate wasn’t really Nate at the time of the incident either. ^_^; Heh.)

Lance frowned at the words. It took him a moment to decide on who the words were meant about. There were so few woman in his life that those words could have been meant about. At least two who could possibly need his help right now. Yet for who spoke the words he knew exactly who was meant.

Lance didn’t bother offering a response to the words as he turned to leave. He knew she wouldn’t be at her own house. She had been remaining at her company’s house ever since he had brought her home from Ishgard.

The words were blunt but he had no doubt they were meant honestly and not as an insult. Thus he had no intentions of ignoring the question. Granted the question hit home a bit closer then he would have liked to admit openly to anyone. Yet the person asking deserved his answer.

“Yes, Lady Dusk. It is as you have figured.” Lance smiled and held his arms wide. The carefully placed mask of an Ishgardian upper class man. “You have seen right through me as you usually have the knack for doing. I will just have to be more careful around you.”

It was meant at least partly in jest. He rather liked the men and women his cousin called family. Even if he couldn’t understand the current situation he was not privy to as an outsider. He crossed his arms over his chest an shrugged, the smile becoming a more solemn look. “I am afraid to be alone. I will admit it. I have made it through everything thus far because I have never been truly alone. I would much prefer to keep it that way though. I’d prefer though if you keep this between you and I, Lady Dusk. I do not relish the idea of everyone knowing such a silly fear.”

(No this is not the picture in question. Just the only one I have of the person she is speaking of. XD)

Destiney was going through her belongings at her mother’s house. It was something she had long avoided. Her old room still brought memories of long ago. Fingers brushed over a scrap of paper in the chest at the foot of her bed.

“What is this?” The question was only to herself as no one was around with her. It was a simple sketch but detailed enough to know it was something her mother had done. How it had ended up in her belongings though she was unsure. Fingers traced over the drawing on the paper. A warm smile on her face as she gazed down at the two kids in the picture. Bows in hand and aiming for something in the distance that was not seen in the image.

“I remember this now. It’s been so long. I wonder where he ended up.” Destiney mused to herself as she held her finger over the drawing of the boy with her own child self in the image. They had been an odd pairing but they had been such good friends. However when she had been sent to Ishgard she had lost contact with him. “I hope you are doing well, Atix.”
