Prompt #29: Mother and Son

Valen paused outside of the small house he had considered home for much of his life. It felt so tiny now that he was grown. Yet it was still filled with many fond memories even around all his training and practice.

After all she lived here. His mother. The woman who always doted upon him growing up. Always made sure he was loved and safe. Even if she considered him to be his father’s legacy. The woman who protected him even when something silly had scared him as a small child.

Valen walked inside the house to find his mother at the sink washing the dishes. “Always so busy even still.” Valen laughed softly as he walked over to kiss his mother on the cheek. She turned to give him a warm smile before embracing him in a hug.

“Let me look at you.” Leandra spoke as she began looking Valen over for any lasting injuries from his journeys. Satisfied he was well she led him towards the dinning table and urged him to sit. “Come now. I’m sure you have not had a decent meal in days if you are anything like your father was.”

It was always good to come home.

 “sword” for Lance and Rinoa

(Long overdue. ❤ @rinoasdream )

Lance had been up near the Steel Vigil. His usual time to pay respect to the lives lost while he still lived. He made the trip at least once a year. Sometimes more if he felt the need for a little reflection.

He thought he recognized the familiar elezen who was surrounded by a pair of Aevis. What brought her out this way, he wasn’t sure. But hells be damned if he was about to let her stand alone against those Aevis.

“Halone guide me.” A quick prayer to his beloved goddess before rushing towards the surrounded woman.

His blade struck deep into the Aevis who wasn’t facing him. A strangled cry of pain from the beast. The other just about to lunge at Rinoa. Only for it’s jaws to meet Lance’s shield as the knight crouched and raised it. He grunted under the power of those jaws that tried to rip his shield away. Not that he would give the creature that satisfaction. When it gave up trying to crunch or rip the shield away, Lance swung his blade forward right into it’s maw as it retreated. Off with part of it’s jaw! The creature staggered away several steps before collapsing to the ground, the snow staining red with it’s blood.

Lance took a deep breath of the cold biting air before looking back at Rinoa. “Are you okay, my lady? One should be more careful traveling alone out here.”

The tune went quiet but picked back up after a few ticks. The location seemed to bounce off the buildings, the direction changing after long pauses. The same few bars of music played in repeat. The light breeze ruffling the leaves of trees and bushes.

Alex growled softly as he couldn’t locate the source of the music. It was frustrating and nerve wracking. He’d start walking in the direction of the music only for it to seem to change directions.

“Seven hells… Whoever you are come out! Or bugger off! I’m sick of these games! Let’s settle this.” Alex shouts. Looking about as he stood tense and ready. Paranoid over these mind games and ready to shank someone.
