  • “Woah, when did you get that?”
  • “Who did this to you?”
  • “How many time have I told you to be more careful?”
  • “You’re saying this was an accident?”
  • “What a shiner!”
  • “If you look like this, I’d hate to see the other guy.”
  • “I’m not buying it, you don’t walk into a door and get a bruise like that!”
  • “Does it hurt when I touch it?”
  • “Let me kiss it better.”
  • “If you don’t rest, you won’t heal.”
  • “Another fight?”
  • “What happened to your face?”
  • “I don’t think your arm is meant to bend like that…”
  • “Let’s get you to bed.”
  • “Let’s get you to the hospital.”
  • “Why are you so calm about this?”
  • “You’re bleeding!”
  • “What are friends for, ey?”
  • “So, instead of helping you, they ran off the moment they saw what was happening?”
  • “You need to look where you’re going.”
  • “I’m not accusing anyone, I’m just saying it looks suspicious.”
  • “Do you want to tell me what really happened?”
  • “Don’t move! You’ll faint!”
  • “I’ve got some bandages, wait a sec.”
  • “You’re the clumsiest person I know.”
  • “I won’t let you be on your own, not when you’re like this.”
  • “How could you be so careless?”
  • “I can’t even look at you, you promised not to get into any more fights!”
  • “H-how many of them were there?”

“A teacher could help,” Riski agreed. “And practice. But if they’re helping and you’re having good luck, and especially if you actually enjoy doing it, that sounds like something to look into for sure.” He watched her hands skim over the cards, drawn to the shine of the gold edging. While he admittedly didn’t set much stock in the practice, it was still fascinating as an art form and the cards themselves could be quite beautiful.

His gaze switched to the fairy in his hand as Destiney talked about her. She was sparkly, practically glowing even in the daylight, but beneath the glow she didn’t look anything like as old as she should be if she came from the fallen city. Clearly a creature of magic. He felt a little better about his carbuncle comparison. “She definitely seems very special. You can tell just by looking at her. “

“She is special to me. Though sometimes it’s like having a nagging mother always over my shoulder. She doesn’t approve of me worrying about others first over my own well being.” She smiles at Riski as she smooths down the creases in her doublet. Daisy’s smile bright an happy at Riski’s words. “She’s really friendly. Well to most people. There may have once been an incident where she was nearly a meal. Not quite sure she’s forgiven Oni yet for that.” At the mention of Oni, Daisy frowns an waves her arms frantically which just makes Destiney chuckle. “Nope. Apparently not.”

“A lot of what I know or attempt is fumbling in the dark. I learn by doing usually rather then a teacher. But… I think when it comes to those cards I am going to find a teacher. Or at least someone I can ask questions who has real answers. I’ve a fond love for research more then I do actually working up the nerve to bother strangers usually. This here…” She motions between them with a hand to indicate what she was talking about. The sitting down with a stranger in the wild and speaking with them. Caring about someone’s well being rather then moving on when they had insisted. “For me is a step in a good direction really. Though it helps you have a charming smile.” A slightly teasing smile as she looks away towards the river.

“So besides getting yourself zapped by couerls, what sort of things do you do? If you don’t mind me asking. Or if you feel up to answering. I feel like I must be talking you to death.”

“I’ve learned a little bit of everything through either trial and error or bugging people I’ve been stuck with on jobs. The best for that was the merc band I used to be in – different people with different specialties. It was invaluable on a couple of occasions to be able to pick up a battleaxe or a glaive and keep going even after running out of arrows.” Riski grins, giving Daisy a small nod of warning before lowering his hand to rest on his knees. She’s welcome to stay, of course, but he can’t keep his arm up like that any longer.

“As you’ve observed, I’m very charming.” Riski winks at her, tilting his head to the side briefly in order to toss his hair back out of his face. “But mostly I just do odd jobs. Fighting the local nuisance of the day, deliveries, running messages – whatever’s needed that they’ll pay me for. Within reason, of course. So again, knowing a little bit of everything comes in handy there, too.”

Daisy fluttered off his hand as his arm began to lower. Her new perch being the top of Destiney’s head once more. Destiney merely shot a glance upwards at her fairy companion as she listened to Riski speak.

“Ah so in other words you’re very versatile. Must be handy indeed. I am still a decent shot with a bow. It’s what I used to do before I chose to be a healer. I’ve never really tried my hand with other weapons. Not sure if I’m ready to even consider such.” She looks towards the northeast, knowing what lay in the distance over that way. She shakes her head briefly to cast away the thoughts. Daisy flutters down off her head to light smack her hands against Destiney’s cheeks. “Daisy!” She sighs before chuckling. Daisy merely crosses her arms an frowns. “Like I said. She is like a nagging mother.”

“I’m a terrible shot anymore,” Riski admitted cheerfully. “But it’s no big deal, because of those other skills I picked up. But not everyone is suited to all weapons, just like not everyone is suited to healing. There’s nothing at all wrong in finding what you’re good with and sticking with it.”

He followed Destiney’s gaze, raising his eyebrows at Daisy’s reaction to her. “I take it she disapproves of something? Or is she just annoyed?” He didn’t know what was off in the distance, but it obviously meant something to Destiney and her fairy companion.

Destiney takes a long moment, gazing towards Daisy. Deciding how best to answer. A deep breath in an out. “Yes. A bit of both really. She remembers what happened that day. She was still my uncle’s companion at the time. It’s her way of trying to smack some sense into me.”

Her right hand goes to rest over a spot on her chest, just to the right of her heart. “She thinks I need the occasional reminder. Which sometimes I do. But right now…” A pause as she looks up at the sky an closes her eyes for a moment. “Right now I’m in a much better place then I was back then.” A genuine smile, though not nearly as warm as she tried to make it. “We all do stupid things when we’re younger an not as smart as we are further down the road. I made some extremely stupid choices. Daisy just likes to remind me when she thinks I’m in danger of dwelling too hard on those choices.”

“I have good company today despite being this close to that place.” There was the warmth now. The smile meeting her eyes an much warmer this time. “Even if said company is only because he got himself zapped.” A slight tease of course. Something she found she couldn’t resist.

Two Paths Converge

(So. First meeting for the cousins, Destiney and Lance. Since my characters cannot actually ever meet each other in game, of course, I wrote this for them. The beginnings of something I’m working on to happen in the future. @michisilver and @kindlingdusk who wanted to read this an helped give Lance the verbal kick in the pants he needed. 😀 Here it is. An @onidephor for Raiden who had a hand in helping make this go the way it did.)

Destiney quickly tucked away her
journal as she finished the last lines for the entry she was working
on. The fact that someone was knocking on her door had her curious.
Chee and J’siris usually didn’t bother knocking and waiting. They
usually just knocked then came in. Whoever was at the door today
wasn’t them. She didn’t usually get visitors at her personal home. It
wasn’t an address she openly gave out. This place was an escape from
all the chaos and activity in her life. Her one safe haven from
everything.

What she hadn’t been expecting was the
handsome elezen on the other side. She was pretty sure she had never
met this man before. His darker skin tone almost made her mistake him
for a duskwight at first. But the racial cuffs on the ears marked him
as a wildwood. His hair was raven black with what appeared to be dark
blue highlights in places. Faint freckles dotted his cheekbones right
below his summer sky blue eyes. She found herself speechless as she
stared up at him.

“Destiney? Destiney Delvanguard yes?”
He asked as he bowed politely to her. Even an Ishgardian accent
touched his voice.

“Yes. Who are you?” She finally
managed to find her voice to ask the young man before her. The accent
had set her on edge. It had been the douse of cold water she needed
when staring at a handsome elezen man. She knew very few people in
Ishgard. He was not among those. Very few of those she even knew
there could be counted among those she trusted. So what brought this
man to her doorstep then?

“Lancefer, Knight in service of House
Haillenarte. May I come in?”

Destiney stepped aside as she held the
door open for him to come in. She had not missed his lack of a last
name. Curiosity won out over caution though. There was no one she
remembered among Haillenarte. Never before had she interacted with
anyone from the High Houses. Not even a knight of one. She had always
kept her time in Ishgard limited after her five year stay had ended
years ago. Only returning as needed for information or items bartered
from a trader there. Not even returning to visit her aunt. Though she
did send letters at times to let her aunt know she was still alive.

Thankfully the recent remodel of her
kitchen allowed for better space to deal with guests. Mostly because
she had been tempted to invite members of the company by sometime.
Most definitely a few of them at the very least. She had already had
Felix over once. Along with his friend Rowan. It had just been a few
nights ago actually.

Lancefer picked a chair not far from
the doors, placing his gauntlet clad hands on the back but didn’t
sit. He looked anxious and nervous though he did hold himself well
without fidgeting. As if whatever he had come here for, was bad news.
Or at least news he was unsure how she would take. Destiney didn’t
take her eyes off him though as she moved around the counter into the
kitchen. The more distance between them the better. Not that there
was much room for escape if needed. Especially being in the kitchen.
Still the space between them an the counters made her feel a fraction
safer to deal with the Ishgardian in her home.

“What can I help you with, Ser
Lancefer?” Destiney asked as she grabbed a bottle of white wine off
the cupboard shelf before turning her attention back to him. There
was no way she wished to take her eyes off him for long. His sword
and shield were not drawn but that did not make him any less
dangerous. Her bow was downstairs on her desk as she had not expected
needing it. As was her soulstone so there was no way to call Daisy to
her aid. Fingers reached into her pocket to brush against her
linkpearl. At least that much she never left just anywhere. It was
also on her person.

“This… This is hard to explain.”
Lancefer said with a sigh as he ran a hand through his dark hair. He
finally let go of the back of the chair and began to pace. “After
speaking with both Lady Miu and Lady Dusk… They both thought it
time I come clean to you. That I come speak with you. I beg you to
hear me out until I finish what I have to say though. Will you?” He
looked at her with pleading eyes as he stopped his pacing for a
moment.

“Lady Dusk? You know Dusk?”
Destiney frowned as she looked at him. Lady Miu was a name she had
not heard before but she only knew one Dusk. It made her feel she
needed to be extra cautious now if the Dusk he spoke of was the one
she knew. Though it also made her want to find out the truth. Surely
if he was dangerous Dusk wouldn’t have suggested he come speak to
her. After all Dusk kept trying to warn her of Leera because she
thought the duskwight was dangerous. Granted Leera was dangerous in a
way but he had never proven a danger to her yet.

“Lady Dusk of the Order you belong to
yes. I have…” He hesitated as he took a deep breath as if to try
an ease the tension of his body. He could see the way Destiney had
tensed up as he confirmed that they were talking about the same Dusk.
“I… have been speaking with various members of your company. For
a while now actually. Raiden. Oni. Lady Tara.  To name a few. I dined
with them for a brief time at the beginning of the week even. They
knew the truth an have held their tongues on the matter because I
pleaded for them to do so.”

“Held their tongues on what matter?
Get to the point.” Destiney said with a frown as she gently placed
the wine bottle down on the counter behind her. She no longer trusted
herself to hold on to it. Afraid she may either throw it or drop it.
Almost wished she had a seat in case she needed it with whatever this
knight was about to tell her.

“Please hear me out until the end. At
first what I have done is because of orders on behalf of my
grandfather. But as time went on my motivations changed. My reasons
for doing what I have done have changed. Fury take me… I even
battled Raiden on behalf of those motivations. Before the eyes of
Halone herself outside the gates to Ishgard…” A heavy sigh as he
resumed pacing once more as his story slowly unfolded. “I lost
gloriously to Raiden. I never stood a ghost of a chance. I thought…
thought you were safe with members like Raiden to watch your back.”

“Safe? Safe from what?” Destiney
struggled to remain patient. She found his words to grate her nerves.
Why had he challenged Raiden? What was she supposed to be safe from?
Interally she was screaming for him to get to the point. However she
knew screaming an getting angry would do little good. It was obvious
whatever this knight was trying to say was difficult. He wanted to
make his point with as many details as possible.

“From my grandfather. Our
grandfather.” His eyes met hers. He held his breath as he watched
her for any sign. Any sign of what she was likely to do. When she
just stared at him in confusion he pressed forward. His words came
quicker now. Hurrying to make his point before she had a chance to
toss him out of her house without finishing. “My name is Lancefer
Aurifore. I am your cousin. Grandfather at first sent me to spy on
you an report back to him. Looking for any weakness he could use
against you. Once I learned you were my cousin though… I started to
defy his wishes. I fed him false information. I fought Raiden for
your safety. He… Doesn’t have the best of reputations among the
knights but it is not my story to tell.”

“Wait… What? Grandfather…
That…” Destiney sucked in a sharp breath as she gripped the
counter behind her. Her eyes stared down at the floor beneath her
feet. She felt like a rug had been ripped out from under her. She had
had no interactions with the old bastard since she had left Ishgard.
Gladly had she kept it that way. Neither one of them wanted to be
family to one another. Yet this man in her home was calling himself
her cousin. She felt angry and confused all at the same time.

“I tried my best to work from the
shadows. To keep anything that might damn you as a heretic from
reaching grandfather. But… I am a knight not a spy. I have a
certain amount of honor to uphold. Haillenarte has already fallen too
far without me adding anything worse to their reputation.” His
pacing stopped again. Once more his hands gripped the back of the
chair nearest to him. His gaze was downcast. “Both Lady Miu and
Lady Dusk insisted this farce needed to end. That I needed to come
clean an speak with you. I… You are my family. I cannot stand by an
allow this continue. To allow this all to spiral out without you
knowing what sort of danger might lurk in the shadows. Please…”

His words seemed heartfelt. That was
what struck Destiney the most. Never before beyond her aunt had
anyone from that side of the family reached out to her. To most of
them her mother was an outcast. An she a half-breed bastard. Yet here
was one claiming to be different. To actually be trying to warn her.
Grandfather having a desire to brand her a heretic was actually not
very far fetched. She didn’t like the man an he certainly didn’t like
her.

“If you can not trust my words
alone… If you have reason to distrust me… Speak with Raiden or
Lady Dusk. Or even Lady Tara. Please. Even if you toss me out right
now… Please just believe me… All I want is to keep you safe.”

Destiney felt at a loss for words.
Every name of an Order member was someone she trusted. Even if she
was not currently on good terms with Oni. It still said something if
those people had trusted him enough to keep his secret. It explained
the occasional feeling of being watched.

Family. The gods were offering her
another piece of a family. A piece she had never known till now.
Could she trust his words rang true? Could she really just accept his
words for what they were? Haillenarte… It was one of the decent
High Houses. One she had always thought to be far more noble then
those monsters of House Dzamael. Maybe his words could be trusted.

Raiden had fought with him an allowed
the man to live. He had walked away from a battle that could have
very well killed him. If Raiden had allowed him to live… There must
be some shred of truth to his pleas. Which struck another cord in
her. After what she had watched Oni and Raiden to be capable of…
They had allowed someone who had clearly attacked them to walk away
alive.

Her hands clenched as she tried to
decide how to react. Slowly she reopened her hands and finally looked
up at him. His head was still bowed as if waiting for her judgment.
Part of her was angry, furious even. Part of her felt sympathy
towards him. Her heart was tugged in various direction of emotion as
her mind tried to sort through the information in a reasonable
fashion. How dare he assume she needed his protection. How dare he
spy on her! Yet… He was reaching out to her now…

Destiney stalked from the kitchen over
to where Lancefer stood, still not looking up as she approached. Her
hands met his shoulders, shoving backwards. With a clatter of metal,
Lancefer found himself on his butt staring up at her with wide
startled eyes. Destiney crossed her arms over her chest as she looked
down at him with a frown.

“How dare you assume I need your
protection. How dare you stalk me from the shadows yet call yourself
a knight. How dare you assume I want any contact with anyone in the
Aurifore family.” Destiney began. Her voice was firm yet the anger
was held at bay. Slowly she dropped her arms from where she had
crossed them. A hand stretched out to him. “Get up.”

He stared at her dumbfounded and
speechless. First she had shoved him and scolded him. Now she was
offering her hand out to him. Demanding he get back to his feet. Her
expression was hard for him to read. He took her offered hand,
getting back to his feet with her assistance.

“I appreciate your concern but I can
protect myself… Most of the time.” A tug at the corners of her
mouth was the first sign of true emotion since that frown had faded
into a blank look. “I will give you a chance. One chance. If you
screw up, you will never bother me again. If you are truly as honest
as you have made yourself sound… Then… Welcome to the family?”

Lance felt his eyes would pop out of
his head as he listened to her words. He threw his arms around her
without thinking, hugging her tight. She squeaked in protest at the
sudden hug by a man she didn’t really know yet. He quickly pulled
back with a sheepish smile.

“Sorry… I was expecting worse. Like
things thrown at me… Or spells. Halone have mercy.” He laughed
nervously. “I am… Overjoyed that you are going to give me a
chance. I have never been close with my siblings. I have been… the
black sheep of the family since the day I joined Haillenarte.”

“Well then…” Destiney looked
around at her kitchen, eyes settling upon the bottle of wine. “Tell
me about it over a drink? You already know more about me then I know
about you.”

“Ah… Tea maybe? You do drink tea
yes? I am afraid I have duty later this evening. Alcohol would not be
wise.” Lance said as he removed his sword and shield, leaving them
near the door.

“Tea it is.”

(Oh gawd. It’s been so long since I last wrote a journal entry for Dest. Time to make up for it. x_x Bad me! Another entry not really done in a series of what has happened in a week. Cause it’s been too long an I can’t remember everything. An because I scrapped the original stuff I had written last night. Trying to recap everything was proving harder then I wanted it to be. So I decided just to go over certain events instead. Whatever Dest felt was worth writing about this time. Besides probably better this way anyways as I start doing RPs in other ways besides in the game. Just let her write her thoughts of certain situations instead.)

It’s been a time since I’ve last written in here. I was… emotionally distraught last time. Things are… A mix between better an worse. Depends upon which day we speak of. Am I as upset as the last time I wrote? No. Am I still… Gods I don’t know. The things I’ve seen and had to think on in the time between then and now…

The missions and the missing kids. Yes more missing kids which we found and rescued this time thankfully. Dealing with missing supplies only to have to deal with our masked foe and corrupted fire elementals and the undead… Our missions have been getting more and more dangerous. Dealings with a fanatic crazed with some sort of being named Gaia. It’s a lot to take in. A lot to understand. It leaves me scratching my head an wondering where to find the answers. We can’t even touch our masked foe. Twelve be merciful… We need to get to the bottom of this before anyone else gets hurt. Aras was hurt in the fight with the masked foe and his behemoth. Quarcy was hurt in the fight with the masked foe an his tortoise and fire elementals. I am tired of watching the others get hurt. There has to be answers somewhere. There just has to be…

On a plus side to the time I’ve spent… I am back on good terms once more with Felix and Dusk. Though they have both multiple times cautioned me against Leera. Both of them have. I know they mean well.

But I hold to what I believe. I believe Leera can be a better person. He just needs the right influences. He’s been nothing short of caring when I talk to him. Alright sometimes he seems a little cold. But he’s always been honest. He even gave me a potion of sorts in case I were to get hurt. Which of course Felix seems to insist is some kind of poison. I highly doubt it is. Leera gave it to me while we were discussing Oni.

Speaking of Oni… I got to witness him hunting by accident. Wrong place, wrong time… To think… Our head of security can behave like that… To know what he is capable of… I understand now why Leera warned me. I was never more thankful in that moment to have that linkpearl to contact Leera with. I was so afraid I couldn’t think straight. I thought for sure I was going to end up as Oni’s next meal. An to watch him… No I can’t recall it. It still makes me feel ill.

Felix seems to think I need to keep an open mind. I’ve always had an open mind. But this… This is wrong on so many levels. Nate said Oni wanted to apologize. I’m not sure I want to be alone in the same room with him. I’m not sure I can trust him after what I saw. After everything I’ve been told between Leera and Raiden. I’m not sure what to think right now… I’m not sure I will ever be able to look at him in the same way again. There might always be that fear now.

I’m hoping to see Leera again soon. I’m hoping to finish discussing some of what was mentioned before Dusk showed up during our last chat. Hopefully…

Ah… I will have to finish writing another time. There is a knock on my door. Might be Chee or her brother. It is unusual for me to have guests at my personal home.

28. What is their biggest fear? What in general scares them? How do they act when they’re scared?

(Thanks for asking @doriansmoustache Going to go OOC for this. Don’t feel these three would openly talk about it.)

image

(Dest has a good many fears. Picking one in particular wasn’t easy. I think the biggest is that one day she is going to have to kill again. Whether it be to protect someone she loves or to defend herself. An she’s afraid that she will fail to be able to act. That the person she is trying to save will die because she couldn’t kill. While things have gotten easier with the help of her free company, she still finds combat against people impossible.

As far as what generally scares her beyond the biggest? Many things. Those are best found out while RPing though. She still finds new things that scare her from time to time. Such as behavior of certain people who I will not name. I’m sure if they read this they know who they are. 😛

Dest’s reactions vary depending on what it is that scares her. Sometimes curling up in a corner. Somethings running if she is not too scared to move. Definitely some form of yelp or shriek if it comes too close. So she has a range of behavior that depends on just how scared she is.)

(Lance’s biggest fear is an will always be failure. Whether it be failing in his duty as a knight or failing to protect someone.

He of course has smaller fears beyond the biggest such as his family. But he is also a newer character then Destiney and I have no had as much time to develop him fully.

As far as his behavior when afraid… Well he hides it fairly well. Or at least tries to. He tries to squash the fear with the facts that if he doesn’t act or he allows fear to control him then he really will fail. It won’t be until later that he’ll let those feelings out. Usually while alone unless someone has gotten close enough to him for him to share such a part of himself with them.)

(Karigan’s biggest fear is death. Yes everyone fears deaths. Some more then others. Kari sees death as the end not as another path in life. She’s too young to die is her most common thought.

She is a new character I’ve only recently began. Well an old character who I’ve finally given a story an life. So I’m still developing her fears and such. So she is by far the most undeveloped of the three.

As far as behavior, she doesn’t hide it very well when she’s afraid though she does try. Her ears will flatten against her head and her tail will go rigid. She behaves a lot like a cat who is afraid. So watch for scratching! Probably best not to corner cause she’ll fight like a woman possessed to get away from something she’s afraid of.)

8. Did they have pets as a child? Do they have pets as an adult? Do they like animals? (Any character!)

“I had no pets growing up. Mother insisted we had enough in our lives without adding a pet. Which was true and I did not argue it. I did have my training to join the Quiver at the time so I thought to actually follow my mother’s advice. For once.” She laughs an reaches down to scratch the head of the young wolf pup at her feet. “Now though? I have one pet. And two companions. So yes I like animals. I always have. I just did not have the maturity to have pets when I was younger. This one here is Tucker. He mostly stays at my house.”

She rolls her eyes as a small blue dragonet squawks before perching on her shoulder. “Lady here is not a pet though some people seem to try an consider her so. She is a companion an has a mind of her own. I’m pretty much just her babysitter.” Yelps softly as Lady nips the edge of a pointed ear. “My other companion is Nebula, my chocobo. I would not really call her a pet. She would object to being called a pet as much as as Lady does.”

image

“No pets. It was never allowed and I never had an interest really. Not that I have anything against pets. I think I just have never really found the one suited to my life. I spend a lot of time in Coerthas mostly. Not exactly a good place for a pet when you are on duty. Nor would I trust leaving a pet to the whims of my family in Ishgard. Maybe someday.”

image

“I had a fish in a tank once as a child. I wasn’t very good at remembering to feed it though. I think father kept an eye on it for me. At least until it passed. My life now though is kind of not suited to a pet. Neither are my goals. If I found a pet suited to my traveling an dangerous life then I would gladly take one. Hopefully they wouldn’t be too reliant on me remembering to feed it though.”

Work. She knew the dangers an pains of such work. She had done her fair share of odd jobs before finding her home among the Order. Her jobs were a bit more carefully selected now. At least any that she did on her own free time.

A frown crossed her features as he admitted why he was refusing her aid. It was a fine reason. She might have thought similarly had she not spent so much time around her current ’family’. Helping those who she had a feeling could not afford most people who would agree to help for a price. An what was wrong with just helping someone while asking for nothing in return on occasion. Nothing of course.

Before she could object though he had changed the subject. Clever. Obviously one used to dealing with faked smiles. Whether he was the one wearing them or just seeing through them, she didn’t know. A part of her wanted to deny it as she sometimes did. But she could make polite conversation to keep an eye on him. Last thing she wanted to was walk away an leave him to fend off anything in his state should something else pass by. The memories were not as sharp an jagged as they once were.

“A bit of both really. I met someone out here years ago. Well further northeast of here a bit. The circumstances that lead to our meeting… That’s the bad memory.” A sad smile as she thought about the incident. Her hand drifting up to her left shoulder. Fingertips resting over one spot in particular. The memory of an old wound though it never bothered her physically. Her uncle had done a good job repairing all the physical damage.

He had experience on both sides of a false smile. There was plenty of need, especially during jobs where he was set in a place of service as a way to gather information. At times all it took was a smile to put someone at ease, even if the smile didn’t quite reach your eyes. Learning to see through them was just as important, as well, for the simple sake of staying safe.

“Sorry to dredge up the past. Some things are better left buried.” Riski wrinkled his nose in sympathy for a moment. “You can keep going on your way if you want. Don’t want to make you stay.” The attacks were growing less frequent, as well as less intense and a little shorter each time. “Thanks, though. Appreciate the company.”

She shook her head as she held up her hand as if to stop the apology. She didn’t need apologies. It wasn’t his fault. Even if somethings were better left buried, this would always be something she refused to bury. It didn’t deserve to be buried. No matter how much it hurt. With time it had begun to hurt less slowly. But his thanks did bring about a genuine smile this time.

“I think I am content to wait. If nothing else my time among my free company has taught me it’s sometimes best to be stubborn with a patient. Sometimes they would rather do things that are not in their best interests.” She covers her mouth with a hand as she chuckles softly. She looks up to the sky with a warm smile. “An you are welcome. The leader of my company has a favorite saying. The words are in his native tongue but he says they mean ‘not alone’. So I am content to wait until you can walk away on your own safely. I have no where else I have to be today. No work to attend with the Order. I already finished the accounting before I came out here.”

Daisy who had been mostly content with fluttering about finally decided to take a seat on top of Riski’s head. Or at least attempt it. Which made Destiney chuckle at her sparkling companion. “Sorry. Daisy can be a handful at times.”

“Are you saying that you think I’m going to go do something stupid if you turn your back?” Riski asked, lifting his eyebrows in feigned surprise. “I’ll have you know that I,” he paused briefly, a grin tugging at the corner of his mouth, “would absolutely do that. Have we met before?” He shifted his position, pulling his knees up and resting his arms on them.

“So what’s your Order?” he asked, an obvious attempt to get Destiney to talk so he didn’t have to while in the electricity’s grip once more. He didn’t shoo the fairy off his head, letting her perch there undisturbed while he was held immobile – and even after the wave passed. He would continue to keep relatively still for her, rather than tilting his head as much as he usually tended to do while speaking to someone.

She hadn’t been expecting him to admit he would be the kind to go an get himself into more trouble. It was amusing none the less because he was at least good humored about it. Her eyes watched as he moved, curious if he was getting up. Not yet though apparently. Good. She was actually enjoying talking to him. Though she knew she was doing more talking then he was. She didn’t really mind though since he was probably doing it for a reason. She wasn’t the one who had been hit by a couerl after all.

“The Order of the Sword and Rose. It’s the free company I work for. I’m one of the healers. Though I also do the accounting and sometimes research. An a bit of…” her voice dropped for the final three words she was about to add, blush coloring her cheeks faintly. “novice fortune telling.” She coughed in attempt to cover the words quickly and shot a glare to her fairy companion who was laughing at her from her perch. She leans over towards him, attempting to swat at Daisy. The fairy merely dodges away an leaves her swiping at air. She sits back with a frown at the sparkling fairy as Daisy moves into the air in front of them. It might have looked childish but she stuck her tongue out at Daisy before continuing. “I tend to just do whatever they need me to do if I can do it. I enjoy being helpful.”

“Fortune telling, huh?” Riski grinned at Destiney. He didn’t seem mocking, just amused and a touch curious. “Are you any good at it? Accurate predictions and things like that?”

He reached up with his right hand as if to offer the fairy a perch, but quickly dropped it and offered the other instead. The first two fingers on his right hand were still twitching uncontrollably, but he hadn’t realized it until he’d been able to see them. “Hello, Daisy. You’re quite lovely, aren’t you?” He had little to no experience with fairies; he was under the impression they were similar to carbuncles, if only because it was something he could at least somewhat understand.

Daisy giggled as she fluttered down to perch upon Riski’s offered hand. Her feet kicking in the air happily. Wings fluttering at his compliments.

“I’ve been trying. I think I might need to find someone who knows better then I do about it. I’ve mostly been fumbling in the dark really.” She sorts through the pouch on her hip before pulling out a deck of cards, black backings with gold trim. “I’ve been using them before our missions mostly. Rhisi’s suggestion. Some of my readings seem helpful and others still confusing and unclear. As I said I am much a novice” Her fingers trace the gold edging around the cards before tucking them back away into her pouch. She looks at Daisy who was enjoying sitting on Riski’s hand.

“She doesn’t actually speak. I mostly judge based on her actions and expressions on what she wants to convey. She served my uncle before she joined me when he retired from adventuring. Almost hard to find one anymore unless you are lucky. Most of them were lost with the fall of the of Nym.”
